Sky at dusk

Sky at dusk

People often ask me this question, so I will attempt to answer it clearly. Sometimes I answer with, “I’ve been painting all day” but I know this does not answer anything. I guess I am a bit vague because going into it requires some thought and time and it’s kind of like answering the question, “How are you?”
Since last September I’ve been developing a creative practice and recording it. I began with research, and the brief was vague. “Go and research anything that you are attracted to, that catches your eye.” I look to galleries, museums, sidewalks, forests, skies and anywhere else, to find interesting things. The research is ongoing.
Right now I am drawing patterns and making marks on paper. I will eventually scan these into a computer and manipulate and combine elements to make a design that will eventually be printed onto fabric. After this, the fabric will be made up into clothing.
I also keep a journal called The Log. I try to write my daily thoughts and actions to keep a record of my creative process. With frequent analysis and editing, I can see how my ideas are forming and the patterns that I carry with me. It is very helpful in getting me to understand why I create and where I might be going.

Wee man

Wee man

It is really starting to feel Christmasy around here. Mum is visiting and we have been enjoying her cooking and house organizing skills. Thanks mum. We’ve got the tree up and I’ve been playing the Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack. Only one more week of school for Clement and I and then I can relax. School has been particularly intense lately and I really need this break. Yannick baked a selection of breads and yummies for Locavore today and they sold well. This may be the first step in his independent baking career. We went to the Nutcracker lastnight with Maureen and Phillipa. Sugarplum faries and toe shoe spins were in my head all night. It is such a treat to see ballet dancers, and the music was amazing. h
